Held annually since 1969, the Nikon Photo Contest International is one of the world's most popular and prestigious international photographic contests. According to Nikon, "the Nikon Photo Contest International aims to create an occasion for photographers around the world to communicate and exchange their photographic vision, irrespective of professional or amateur status."

The theme for the Nikon Photo Contest International 2006-2007 is "At the heart of the image." The 31st theme is divided into two broad categories:
free subject and "Smile, Smile, Smile!" Nikon is encouraging participants to submit photos that express people's true emotions. Entries for the current photo contest may be submitted via snail mail or through the Internet as JPEGs. Nikon will be accepting photos through November 30th, 2006.
