The
Nikon 70-200mm f2.8G IF-ED AF-S VR is a relatively compact, lightweight
G-type telephoto zoom lens outfitted with Vibration Reduction (VR)
technology. The 70-200mm telephoto is one of 6 Nikon Nikkor lenses
equipped with VR. The vibration reduction technology allows users to
take shots using a shutter speed up to three times slower than they
would with a non-VR lens. This opens up a whole new world of
possibilities in low-light situations. The lens also has an active
vibration mode, which is ideal for situations in which the user is
moving, such as on a plane or in a moving car.
In addition to the VR technology, the telephoto lens has Nikon's exclusive Silent Wave Motor, which "enables ultra-high-speed autofocusing
with exceptional accuracy and powerful super-quiet operation." Five
extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements are used in the lens to keep
chromatic aberration to a minimum, even at maximum aperture. The lens
is fully compatible with Nikon TC-14E II, TC-17E II, and TC-20E II Teleconverters, which may be used to significantly increase focal length of the lens.
