Digital Camera Shipments up 6 percent in Q1 of 2007
According to IDC market research, digital camera shipments are up 6 percent in Q1 2007 over this quarter last year. Canon remains on top with 21 percent market share, followed by Sony (16 percent) and Kodak (13 percent). Samsung, however, grew the most in market share, rising from just 4 percent to 11 percent in one year. Despite an ever-growing market for digital SLR cameras, Nikon fared rather poorly. "Nikon was seventh with a share of 7 percent, down from 13 percent a year ago," said IDC analyst Christopher Chute. "They did well with DSLRs (digital single-lens reflex cameras), but no so well with compacts."
