You can now view the finalists in the Smithsonian magazine's 4th annual photo contest. A total of 8,500 photographs were submitted from all over the world, and 10 were eventually selected in each of five categories: American, Travel, The Natural World, People, and Altered Images. The winner of each category, as well as the overall Grand Prize Winner, will be announced in a summer 2007 issue of the Smithsonian.

Furthermore, "category winners will be awarded $500. The grand prize winner will receive a four-day, three-night Smithsonian Journeys Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta weekend adventure for two from October 5-8, 2007 or the cash equivalent."
