If you are lucky enough to attend the Photokina Event 2006, starting on
September 26, you might want to take some time to stroll past booth
B010 in Hall 2.1. There you will see the world's largest telephoto lens
- by far. The lens, developed by
Carl Zeiss,
has a focal length of 1700mm and weighs an unbelievable 256 kg (563
lbs). It provides a total of 21x magnification at a speed of f/4. Due
to its size, all adjustments, including aiming and focusing, are done
robotically. One can only imagine the price tag on this supertelephoto.
